8-A Statesville Record Landmark Monday, January 20, 1992 Evelyn Barney Mrs. Evelyn Burton Barney, of 15960 Cool Springs Road, Cleveland, died Sunday at Brian Center in Salisbury following an illness of five months. Mrs. Barney was born in Rowan County on Aug. 31, 1917 to the late Noel Allen and Burton.

She was a homemaker and member of Jericho Church of Christ in Mocksville. On July 6, 1935 she married James "Jack" Barney who preceded her in death on Nov. 22, 1982. Mrs. Barney was also preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth Elaine Barney.

Surviving are two sons, Noel Barney of Cooleemee and Donald Barney of Mocksville; two daughters, Linda Allen of Cleveland and Dena Phelps of Cooleemee; four brothers, Sam Barney of Cleveland, Milton Barney of Kings Mountain, Clyde Barney of Woodleaf and John Barney of Salisbury; one adopted brother, Pete Smith of Georgia; one sister, Mrs. Mildred Pinkston of Salisbury; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Jericho Church of Christ. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral hour.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today at BunchJohnson Funeral Home, and at other times, will be assembled at the residence of Mrs. Linda Allen at 15960 Cool Springs Road, Cleveland. William Sloan Mr.

William (Bill) Orin Sloan, 61, of Hicks Creek Road, route 2, Troutman, died Sunday at his residence. Mr. Sloan was born in Iredell County on June 12, 1930 to Rex Orren and Edna McCurdy Sloan of Olin. Hew a retired McGuire Plant of Duke Power Co. Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his wife, Mrs.

Peggy Gaither Sloan of the home; two sons, Gary Sloan of Troutman and Regie Sloan of Statesville; three daughters, Pamela Duncan of Statesville, Debra Jean Sloan of Buckner and Mrs. Susan Fox of Troutman; seven sisters, Mrs. Frankie Moose of Kannapolis, Mrs. Elvalee Templeton and Mrs. Judy Allison, both of Olin, Mrs.

Joyce Madison, Mrs. Dorothy Campbell and Mrs. Almedia Baxter, all of Statesville and Mrs. Polly Heart of Mooresville; six brothers, Donald Sloan of Winston-Salem, Clay Sloan of Shelby, Jim and Dennis Sloan, both of Olin and, Wayne and Gerald Sloan, both of Statesville; 10 grandcildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m.

Tuesday at Fallstown Baptist Church. Rev. Richard Hall will officiate. Burial will be in the Damascus Baptist Church Cemetery in Olin. Serving are pallbearers will be Mike Templeton, Kenny Madison, Carl Sloan, Alex Moose, Charles Campbell, Larry Sloan, John Baxter and Paul Allison.

Shumaker 74, Mrs. Emma Shumaker, 87, formerly ville and the Methodist Charlotte, died at 6:15 a.m. Sunday at the Wesley Nursing Center in Charlotte following an extended illness. She was in Iredell County on June 1904, the daughter Summers Sain of StatesHome in of the late Quince and Jane Hedrick Summers. She attended Iredell County Schools.

A textile employee for 43 years, she was a member of Race Street United Methodist Church where she was was also a member of the WSCS. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Clarence R. Sain, on Oct. 7, 1967. He second husband, J.

Edgar Shumaker, also preceded her in death on Dec. 15, 1981. She was preceded in death by all of her children and one stepson, Clarence Allen Sain, Mary Ellen Morris, Minnie Faye Linn, and Jr. Edgar Shumaker, Jr. She is survived by six grandchildren, Mike Linn of Charlotte, Mrs.

Diane Ramseur of Salisbury, Mrs. Teresa Wise of China Grove, Mrs. Karen Collins and Mrs. Linda Morris, both of Greensboro, and Thomas Morris of Beaufort; one step granddaughter and six great grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m.

Tuesday at Race Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Joe Parker officiating. Burial will follow in Iredell Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from p.m. today at Nicholson Funeral Home, but will assemble at the home of Miss Annette Morris, 1120 Forest Park Drive, at other times.

Ward Bolick Mr. Ward Allen Bolick, 56, of 719 Brookdale Drive, and formerly of Hudson, died at the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. He was born on April 23, 1935 in Caldwell County, a son of Ruth Kirby Bolick of Hudson and the late Arnold Zerden Bolick.

He was a self-employed furniture consultant and former plant manager for Bernhardt Industries. He was a member of Center Grove Baptist Church in Hudson, and was a former member of the Cedar Valley Ruritan Club and of the Hudson Jaycees. He was married to the former Mattie White, who survives. Survivors, in addition to his mother and wife, include one son, Allen Bolick of Emporia, three daughters, Mrs. Robin Setzer of Charlote, Linda Canipe of Granite Falls and Donna Shoemaker of Lenoir; five brothers, Dale Bolick and Ted Bolick, both of Charlotte, Larry K.

Bolick and Dennis Bolick, both of Hudson, and Gary Bolick of Granite Falls; three sisters, Mrs. Helen Keener and Mrs. Hilda Bumgarner, both of Hudson, and Mrs. Wanda Sue Arrington of Charlotte. Funeral services are scheduled for 4 p.m.

Tuesday at Center Grove Baptist Church. Rev. Dan Redding and Rev. Dwight Watts will officiate and burial will be in the church The family friends from p.m. today at Mackie-High Funeral Home in Granite Falls.

Virginia White Holton, 81, of 2708 Newton Drive, died Sunday at Iredell Memorial Hospital after a serious illness of two weeks. Mrs. Holton was born in Iredell County on April 23, 1910 to the late Joel Oscar and Emma Morrison White. She attended Statesville City Schools and was a member of Race Street United Methodist Church. Mrs.

Holton worked at Efirds Department Store as a sales lady and later she worked with Belk's Department Store. On March 13, 1931 she married Thomas Cicero Holton who preceded her in death on Jan. 20, 1988. A daughter, Mrs. Mary Thomas (Tommie) Childers also preceded her in death.

Surviving are a son, Henry Hal Mrs. Holton of Statesville; a daughter, Carolyn Schultz of Vienna, a sister, Mrs. Clara Frank Bustle of Statesville; two brothers, Hubert White of San Francisco, Calif. and Kimball White of Cheraw, S.C.; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m.

Wednesday at Race Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Joe Parker officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from p.m. Tuesday at Nicholson Funeral Home and, at other times, will be assembled at the residence of Mr.

28677. Esterleen Howell TAYLORSVILLE Miss Esterleen Howell, 47, of Brooklyn, N.Y., died Thursday, Jan. 16 in Brooklyn following a brief illness. She was born in Alexander County on Oct. 27, 1944, a daughter of the late Chauncy and Ola Pansy Carlton Howell.

Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Howell and Marina Skinner, both of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one son, Steven Howell of Lenoir; six brothers, Reubin Howell, Ray Dan Howell, Gerald Howell and Harold Howell, all of Taylorsville, James Howell of Hickory and David Howell of Baltimore, seven sisters, Mrs. Cynthia Grant of Taylorsville, Mrs. Jean Baily of Charlotte, Mrs. Hazel French of Brooklyn, N.Y., Mrs. Evelyn Gabay of Valley Stream, N.Y., Mrs.

30, 1936 to Mrs. F. Scarr Morrison of Statesville and the late Scarr Morrison. She was a homemaker and member of First Presbyterian Church in Statesville. On Aug.

29, 1959 she married Col. Joe C. Cansler who survives. Additional survivors include two sons, Capt. Joseph Cansler of Fort Rucker, Ala.

and William Cansler of England; one daughter, Gloria Dawn Cansler of the home; two brothers, Scarr Morrison of River Hills, S.C. and William Morrison of Statesville; five sisters, Mrs. Charles (Polly) Jordan of Atlanta, Mrs. Adelaide Shefte of Charlotte, Mrs. Frances Ashe of Peach Tree City, and Mrs.

Ann Carson and Mrs. Gloria Williams, both of Statesville; two grandchildren, Alexander and Mikayla Cansler, both of Fort Rucker, Ala. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Westmoreland Chapel of BunchJohnson Funeral Home with Rev. Brant Sharpe officiating.

Burial will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery. Sunday at Bethpage Presbyterian Church in Kannapolis. Dr. Steve Mowery was the officiating minister. Mr. Parks died Friday, Jan.

17 at Cabarrus Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. He was born on Sept. 28, 1948 Iredell County, a son of W. Harold and Peggy Kerr Parks of Kannapolis. He was the manager of the Harris-Teeter Grocery Store in Newtowne Plaza in Statesville.

He was married to Peggy Knight Parks, who survives. Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are one daughter, Mrs. Kimberly Dian Moore of Kannapolis; one son, Michael Todd Parks of Kannapolis; three stepsons, Jason Avery Buchanan, Robert Lewis Buchanan and Stephen Eric Buchanan, all of Kannapolis; one sister, Mrs. Vickie Hurd of Kannapolis; one brother, Randy Harold Parks of Kannapolis; his maternal grandMrs. Sudie Kerr of Mooresville; and one grandchild.
