A ribbeting report as usual. But why didn't you go up on Toadsday, using tadpoles instead of hiking poles?

I like the obelisk marking the solstice and equinox. Such angles on it amplify alien energy. I hope it did not interfere with your cerebral energy.

Thanks for posting the Frog Mtn Report. There were Snow Frogs there in 1983 Frog idolatry

No remnants of an old trail? This was one of my first hikes - from Garland in about 1963.

This raises a lot of questions. There used to be a trail to the top? I found a few cut logs and faint tread right on the sharp ridge before the final part up to the summit but naively connected it with the radio repeater being there or just the usual ridgeline goat path. Why would there be a trail going up there? Was it a lookout location? And was there anything at the top in 1963? There was never a lookout as far as I know - just good views. The old trail up from Garland, before all the logging on the north side of Jacks Pass, had the largest timber I remember ever seeing. It was like going up the High Divide in the Olympics - huge trees below opening up to large meadows above.

Shroder -- I enjoyed hearing about your circa 1963 hike from Garland to Frog Mtn. Here is part of the 1935 Snoq NF map. Looks like a trail. Wouldn't it be great to still have the mammoth trees? The question now is: Who is/was Pat Cox? (go to large size image) The dotted line with the alternating black half-circles is "Telephone line" per the map legend. From USDA 1935 S.N.F map

Pat Cox was a USFS employee whose own hand-built cabin was swept away in a 1920 flood. This map shows the Pat Cox "Lean-to," a cabin built by the Forest Service - I assume Mr. Cox lived in it during his USFS gig. The Pat Cox Lean To was a good way-stop for people journeying farther into the mountains, hence it's place on the map.
