About Physicians for
Human Rights (PHR)
Since 1986, Physicians for Human Rights (PHR) has used medicine and science to document and call attention to mass atrocities and severe human rights violations.
PHR was founded on the idea that physicians and other health professionals possess unique skills that lend significant credibility to the investigation and documentation of human rights abuses.
We shared the Nobel Peace Prize for our work to end the scourge of landmines. And today, from Syria to Sudan, from Yemen to the U.S. border, we are using the unassailable facts of forensic medicine and scientific investigation to document human rights crimes and make sure that those who commit them are held accountable.

Our efforts are working
Justice is finally closing in on Syria’s state-backed killers, including the arrest of a former high-ranking intelligence official and two of his subordinates in February 2019.
Last year, we mobilized 21,000 + doctors and health experts to stop family separation at the U.S. border – an inhumane policy that was abandoned shortly afterwards.
Our crucial medical evidence helped convict perpetrators of child rape in the Democratic Republic of the Congo of crimes against humanity and sent them to prison for life in 2017.
